Burnley’s 29-year old Scott Arfield is on the verge of leaving the Premier League club this month with the Scottish international’s contract running down in a few months, meaning if he doesn’t sign soon he will be able to leave on a free transfer. What Are The Odds looks at Scott Arfield next club odds and who may want to snap up the experienced Scot.
West Ham United are the current favourites to sign Scott Arfield from Burnley in this transfer window with odds of 2/1 (3.00), according to bookmaker BetVictor. David Moyes would likely be happy to link up with a fellow countryman as well as a player that has experience at Premier League level and knows how to play through a relegation scrap. Although it may be a signing that would underwhelm Hammers fans it could be one that adds a bit of steel and ‘know how’ to a West Ham side that has been accused of being a bit ‘soft’ in the opening months of the season.
Interestingly it could also be the time for a move back to Scotland for Arfield, and Rangers are showing an interest in the 29-year old. Priced at 6/1 (7.00), it would be surprising for the midfielder to head back south right now, especially with Premier League football with either Burnley or someone else almost guaranteed. However, the project to take the Gers back to the top of the table and challenge Celtic with Champions League football could be appealing.
Newcastle United, Crystal Palace and Brighton are also priced at 6/1 (7.00) to sign the Scottish international, and all pose realistic options - this will be especially true if West Ham ‘drop out of the race’ to sign him.
If it’s a project that Scott Arfield’s after then a drop down to the Championship could also be on the cards (although unlikely) - with Aston Villa, Norwich, Sunderland and Derby all showing interest and all are priced at 12/1 (13.0).
