Since moving from Bradford City in 2014 to Huddersfield Town, Nahki Wells has been popping up with important goals for the Terriers, accumulating in promotion to the Premier League back in May. Now however, the 27-year old striker is up for sale and he could find himself at a new club before the transfer deadline in just over a week’s time. It would appear that Nahki Well’s association with Huddersfield is coming to an end, this intent was confirmed by his manager David Wager who was quoted in the Daily Mail stating that he is on the market, but doesn’t know if he will be sold in this transfer window or not. Jaap Stam’s Reading are the current favourites, albeit with a hefty price of 4/1 (5.00), which suggests that any link or transfer move is in the earliest stages of speculation and it could be one of those transfers that rattles on until Deadline Day.
Wolverhampton Wanderers have been big spenders this summer and have started the season decently with a couple of victories in the first three Championship fixtures, and there’s no doubt that clubs, including Wolves, will be intrigued by the signing of a striker in his prime years that has been there and done it in the league - scoring goals and has a pedigree of success in winning promotion. Odds of 8/1 (9.00) are on-offer for the Midlands club to do the deal, and if they are indeed interested they should have the financial clout to be a real favourite to clinch the signing
If however, Wells wishes to stay in the north of England then he could be an option for Leeds United who are also backed at 8/1 (9.00). The Elland Road faithful are so far being treated to solid football in the post-Garry Monk era, and find themselves in the play-off reckoning in these very early stages of the season. In-fact Leeds are in stellar company after just three games played, with only Cardiff City and Ipswich Town the other unbeaten clubs so far. Helping to guide a club of Leeds’ stature back to the Premier League could be appealing option for Nahki Wells - but is there actually interest from the club? Time will tell.
Birmingham City are picking up their transfer recruitment pace under Harry Redknapp, and with Wells being available it’s likely the wily manager will know only too well what he could add to the club’s attacking prowess. However, price could be an issue and the doubt around it being a possibility is likely reflected in the odds with 14/1 (15.0) currently on-offer at Sky Bet.
Despite all these links it may be that Wells ends up staying at Huddersfield until at least January and the bookmaker is offering 1/2 (1.50) odds on that being the case.
