Max Gradel next club odds - Sunderland make enquiries about Cherries star

Wed, 12 July 2017, 11:29

Reports are linking Bournemouth’s Max Gradel to a likely transfer out of the club, with the Ivory Coast winger seemingly down the pecking order on the South Coast, a move looks to be on the cards. What Are The Odds looks at the clubs vying for his signature via Sky Bet bookmaker odds.

Sunderland who are now managed by Simon Grayson are the club at the forefront of the speculation to sign the 29-year old, and with the two having previously worked together at Leeds United it could be that there’s more than just a decent price of 5/4 (2.25) going for this move to come to fruition. The Daily Mail reported that Sunderland have indeed made enquiries and with pre-season training starting for many clubs, it may be that this move could happen quite quickly - be it to the Black Cats or elsewhere.

The ‘nearly club’ of Sheffield Wednesday are being backed next in this market at 6/1 (7.00), with the Owls desperate to breakthrough their promotion headache and finally return to the Premier League. A signing in the form of Max Gradel would show such intent, but the odds don’t stack in their favour with Sunderland clearly ahead in the race. However, if Gradel needs assurances he can take heart that the Owls give second chances to Premier League fringe players e.g. Aiden McGeady, Gary Hooper etc.

Could a return to former club Leeds be on the cards? Sky Bet obviously think so, but again the odds aren’t going to excite the Elland Road faithful much. Currently priced at 9/1 (10.0), it would need an acceleration of real interest from new boss Thomas Christiansen to bring back Gradel after his spell at the club between 2009-2011, before being sold on to Saint-Etienne for around £3m.

Hull, also in the Championship after relegation, are backed at 12/1 (13.0) and big-sending Wolverhampton Wanderers are further back at 20/1 (21.0) to bring in the much travelled winger.

If a move to stay in the Premier League materialises then it’s Burnley, Watford and Huddersfield Town that are all priced at a far-out 25/1 (26.0) and although it wouldn’t seem to be a move that will happen, it could be that Gradel would accept another bit-part role at any of these clubs should they come knocking with a serious offer.

Derby County and Birmingham City are the major outsiders that could just pull of a deal should they even want to pursue Max Gradel. 33/1 (34.0) odds are to be had on either club and if anyone can pull a deal out of nowhere it would be the much experienced Harry Redknapp at the Second City club.
