In a well documented press-conference last week David Beckham, co-owner of the Miami MLS franchise, revealed the club would enter the league in 2020 and will now start the process of building up a squad and staff. The project is expected to attract top names from the game to play for and to lead Miami. What Are The Odds looks at the first Miami MLS manager odds according to bookmaker Paddy Power.
The current favourite might surprise a few but Gary Neville is the front runner to be next Miami manager, that is even after he admitted he’s not actively looking to get back into coaching or management after his time with Valencia and England.
Odds of 11/2 (6.50) puts Neville out in front in the early stages of speculation as to who’ll take charge of the franchise for the very first time, and Beckham’s trust in his former teammate to deliver for his new club could be sound option.
However, another man that Beckham knows well from his time with England was Fabio Capello. The Italian gave Beckham a backroom staff role during the Three Lions World Cup campaign in South Africa, and the two could link up again in Miami with Capello backed with a price of 10/1 (11.0). It’s interesting to see the gap between Neville and Capello, this could suggest there’s real substance to the former England international taking the Miami manager job - and a potential chance to rebuild his damaged coaching CV.
Carlo Ancelotti is probably the most decorated manager in the running, also at 10/1 (11.0), with the former Real Madrid, AC Milan, Bayern Munich and Chelsea boss currently a ‘free agent’ he would certainly be a manager able to attract the big names to come to play for Miami. However, would the Italian fancy a challenge in the MLS or is he waiting for the opportunity in Europe when the season concludes and clubs potentially look for a change of management.
Plenty of former teammates for David Beckham are in the running according to Paddy Power - Frank Lampard is 12/1 (13.0), Phil Neville at 25/1 (26.0) and Paul Scholes at 33/1 (34.0).
