If reports are true then we could soon be seeing former Liverpool and Chelsea striker Fernando Torres back in the Premier League. The Spanish star has announced that he will leave current club Atletico Madrid at the end of the season - with his contract expiring. Torres has said it's time up at his boyhood club but intends to keep playing for a few more seasons yet. What Are The Odds analyses the Fernando Torres next club odds from bookmaker BetVictor, as to what club could snap up experienced Spaniard in the summer transfer window on a free.
Numerous reports including ESPN have stated that Fernando Torres might be the answer to Newcastle United’s need for a pure goalscorer, with Rafa Benitez seemingly keen on a reunion with the 34-year old. Both manager and player couldn’t be more familiar with each other, with Benitez bringing the striker to England in the first place, going on to become a fans favourites at Liverpool before the two reunited later at Chelsea. Current odds of 4/1 (5.00) are currently on-offer, so Magpies fans best not start getting customised Torres shirts just yet, however there’s seemingly a genuine interest and it would be quite conceivable that the striker would want to work with someone who knows his game and style like Rafa in the north east.
It would appear that if a move back to the Premier League isn’t on the wishlist of the Champions League and Europa League winner Torres, then a move to high-flying Valencia in La Liga could be an appealing switch. Whether or not the striker would want to be part of direct competition against his boyhood club is up for debate, but Valencia are fighting strong at the end of this season - sitting just ahead of Real Madrid in third place. Odds of 8/1 (9.00) suggest it’s unlikely, but then again there’s still plenty of time for discussion to take place before the summer.
If it’s one last pay off that Torres fancies then a move to the Chinese Super League looks the more likely option, backed at 6/1 (7.00) with the bookmaker. Former Atleti teammate Yannick Carrasco made the move to the Far East a couple of months ago and may just be putting in a word to Torres about making a move that so many players have opted for over the past few season.
