Stoke’s Scottish international Charlie Adam could be set for a move away from the Potteries this summer with increased competition in Mark Hughes’ squad set to push the 31-year old down the pecking order. What Are The Odds looks at where the tenacious midfielder could be heading next according to Sky Bet odds.

According to Wales Online news, Charlie Adam is soon set to be on the move to the Welsh capital to pull on the Blue of Cardiff City. The Bluebirds are the favourites, however odds of 7/2 (4.50) suggest the story may have some legs yet and a lot will depend on wages and the appetite to drop down to the Championship with a club that’s not expected to be one of the main contenders for automatic promotion next season. The allure of playing under the enigmatic manager Neil Warnock may have it’s appeal for a player that in many ways shares similar personality traits.
Rangers on the other hand could represent a far more appealing option for a player that knows how to handle big game pressure, especially during his spell with Liverpool. Gers boss Pedro Caixinha is rebuilding his side to be challengers to Celtic next season after a disappointing third place finish in the SPL and Charlie Adam would be a key figure to help plug the gap between the two sides.
Sky Bet are offering odds of 9/2 (5.50) on the move going through and with silverware more of a realistic option for the Scottish midfielder if he were to go to Rangers it could be that he will make the switch back to his homeland and play for the club where it all started for him professionally back in 2003.
Nottingham Forest, managed by Mark Warburton, are the next favoured club for Adam to sign with at a much further out 16/1 (17.0). The tradition and appeal of playing for a club with such a proud fanbase could be a major ‘selling point’ for the midfielder but the off-field problems - such as club ownership and regular changing of management could be where the move hits the breaks. It remains ‘one to watch’ as the story progresses.
If there’s one outside move that looks the most likely then it could be that Birmingham City holds the trump card. Harry Redknapp is clearly a fan of the midfielder having failed in a bid to sign him during his tenure at Tottenham and it would be a safe bet that Harry would certainly get the best out of Adam if he were to drop down to the Championship and ply his trade with the Second City club. Huge odds of 25/1 (26.0) are offered on a move to Birmingham, so it looks clearly unlikely but it can’t be denied that it would certainly be a major coup for Redknapp to land a player of such pedigree and experience.
Premier League Burnley and the Championship playoffs nearly club Leeds are also both valued at 25/1 (26.0), while short odds of 1/2 (1.50) are backing him to remain at Stoke and battle for a place in the Potters starting eleven next season.
