The race for the top four in La Liga intensifies this weekend as fifth placed Sevilla host Valencia, the side in fourth, at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. Sevilla currently sit eight points behind their Champions League rivals, but a win here would put the pressure on Marcelino Garcia Toral and his men.
For our Sevilla v Valencia odds preview, we’ve noted that both sides have been in decent form of late, each boasting similar records of four wins, one draw and one loss in their last six matches. It’s been Valencia’s home form that has developed the gap between themselves and Sevilla, with the latter dropping points in five games on home turf.
Valencia have been pretty good away from home this season, with six wins and three draws in their 13 games away from the Mestalla Stadium. Valencia will be hoping to complete a double over Sevilla in this one, following their fantastic 4-0 victory over Los Rojiblancos back in October.
Aside from that game, our Sevilla v Valencia odds preview shows that matches have tended to be quite close between the two in recent seasons. Previous to the drubbing handed out by Valencia earlier on in the season, only on one occasion in the last six had either side won by more than one goal, a 3-1 Valencia win back in 2015.
Sevilla vs Valencia Match Preview
Previous match stats show that games between these two have been spirited to say the least. There were eleven yellow cards shown in the last two meetings alone, with an incredible 34(!) bookings given in the last six. Reds aren’t rare either, with six sendings-off since 2013.
Sevilla haven’t exactly set the league alight with goals this season, netting only 36 goals in their 27 La Liga matches so far. Valencia have been much better in this department, averaging almost two goals a game in the league.
Our Sevilla v Valencia match preview shows that this game is a tough one to call. Bookies think so too, though Sevilla go into this one as slight favourites based on home advantage.
